Two Years

Today, Rufus has officially been in our care for two full years!  Hooray!

Even though he came to us as just another foster and ended up living with us for five whole months before we made it official, I consider this day to be extra special because I kind of loved him right away.

Honestly, I totally adored him from the moment we met.

The first few weeks with Rufus were odd.  He literally did nothing but sleep and submit to us (rolling over on his back) any time we would approach him.  I thought that either this dog is seriously ill or….we have a lot of work to do.

Even though we’ve logged a lot of hours and been through some tough situations, I do believe that Rufus is a happy, healthy, and well-adjusted dog.  He still has his quirks, but he’s not sweatin’ it.

Must. Not. Look. At. Treat. Too tempted. Say the magic word, mom!

Of course, we also mark this as his unofficial birthday, so happy 4th-6th birthday as well, handsome man!  Even though I’ve been a crazy dog lady my entire life, I never knew I could love a dog as much as I love him.  He is absolutely my heart dog.

Yeah, yeah. Love you too, treat lady!

  1. Oh Rufus! You are always such a handsome fella in all your photos, I just can’t get enough of that sweet face! Happy birthday and Gotcha day to everyone!

ps. You look very dapper in that collar! 🙂

  2. Isn’t it so funny how dogs look away from the treat when they have to wait? I LOVE Rufus’ plaid collar–it kind of matched the cookie with those diagonal lines. Happy gotcha day and birthday, Rufus!

  3. There are very few things I like reading more than your words about how you love him. I feel like I could reach out and touch the love! Happy every day to your wonderfully lovely family, made so much better two years ago!!!

  4. That looks like a delicious treat! Well I know too well how it is to love your little heart dog quirks and all. Rufus charms me through your blog and I love his collar! Happy rescue anniversary and unofficial birthday! Isn’t it amazing how long two years can feel? (In the best way of course!)

  5. Happy Adoptaversary/Birthday Rufus! Nola’s Gotcha Day is just a couple days after yours and she’s been with us for two years too! I completely know how your mom feels about you being her heart dog, as Nola is without a doubt mine. Hope you had a great day and we love reading about you!

  6. Happy birthday Rufus!

Badger did the rolling over thing too when we first got him. We gave him some belly rubs, and now he always flops over, even if we’re just trying to pat his head.
